Archers were the first line of defense in medieval warfare. Shooting at great distances, they could eliminate a lot of soldiers before they became a threat. With the invention of the crossbow and use of gunpowder, they became less and less used in battle.

A famous archer, and the one likely represented by the alternate artwork, was Robin Hood, inspired by Ghino di Tacco, the brigand who stole from the rich to give to the poor.

Villages

The Archer is a good defensive unit, especially if you have more than one village.

Strategies

If you don't have any other villages, you might want to keep the Archer in your hand until needed. Because she only gets +2 power when defending other villages, she'll need protection for her own village.

When hired, she also gets her +2 bonus so that might be another alternative if you can play her.
