A Martyr is someone who forfeits their life for their beliefs. Famous examples include Socrates, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and Joan of Arc. The latter appears to be the inspiration for the artwork.
The Martyr is self-sacrificing, but spread her generosity too thin and she'll be in trouble.
The Martyr is a card that actually gains power as its village is weakened. If placed as part of a basic village, the Martyr will have a defense power of 4 (if only two other units are present). Therefore, using your excess purple cards as hired units can keep a Martyr's power level high. This makes a Martyr's village hard to attack if there are only a few units present.
The Conqueror is a very dangerous card to use as it would remove multiple units from the Martyr's village, increasing the Martyr's power if an attack is successful.
